The Ollie Award

An award for
artistic citizenship, recognising a Waterfordian who's made an
indelible mark on
young people & the arts.
Ollie Breslin is as Waterford as the Blaa.
A local institution, Ollie co-founded Waterford Youth Arts in 1985 and served as the organisation's Artistic Director for forty years, until he hung up the hat in 2025. During his time in WYA, Ollie ushered through generations of Déise teens, not only providing artistic education, but also holistic support.
To run into Ollie in the canteen of the Arch and have a cuppa, sharing your best and worst moments. Ollie was happy to witness it all and provide support when he could.
In recognition of his retirement, we felt it fitting to name our new award in his honour. As someone who has always been for the arts and always been for the youth, we couldn't think of someone more suited to representing the mission and vision of our organisation. The award recognises an individual who has made an indelible mark on creativity for young people in Waterford City and County. The awardee is selected by the committee annually and receives the unique trophy made of recycled wood and copper designed by Waterford designer Brendan O'Donnell.
